Kickstart Scheme

It is well documented that one of the consequences of Covid-19 and lockdown is that young people’s prospects in the labour market have been hit the hardest. The NCA recognises that the damaging effects of short and long term unemployment are disproportionately experienced by younger generations, and by those facing disadvantage so we want to do as much as we can to support young people into work.

This is the place where we help recruit local young people into the NHS.

That’s why we have become a Kickstart employer, creating new jobs for 16-24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long-term unemployment.

We have had to date approx. 66 Kick-starters come and work within the organisation.  We are extremely proud that our first cohort had amazing results, that 90% of the candidates went on to secure employment within the NCA.

This scheme closes in March 2022 meaning our last cohort have to finish by September 22 (in time for winter 22/23).  The date of the induction for the last cohort (cohort 5) is the 29th March 2022

The jobs created with Kickstart funding are new jobs. They don’t:

replace existing or planned vacancies
cause existing employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment
And we haven’t converted bank/zero hours work into opportunities to be supported via Kickstart.

Kickstart jobs are:

a minimum of 25 hours per week, for 6 months
paid at least the National Minimum Wage for your age group
And do not require you to undertake extensive training before they begin the job placement

A Kickstart job also includes:

support to look for long-term work, including career advice and setting goals
support with CV and interview preparation

supporting you with basic skills, such as attendance, timekeeping and teamwork

For the NCA this means that all Kickstarters receive:

A salary above the National Minimum Wage
A 2 week pre-employment preparation for work in the NCA programme

Full corporate induction and local induction
Up to 3 development sessions during the 6 months learning placement which will include:

An individual development plan
CV-writing and interview techniques workshop

A personal development session

Access to 1 hour per month self-directed learning through our existing learning tools.
Fortnightly supervision from a manager to provide continuous feedback and learning.
Six weeks before the end of your job you will be sent all level entry jobs available in the NCA and have guaranteed job interviews

If you are aged 16-24 and you claim Universal Credit you are eligible to apply for the Kickstart scheme. To apply you must speak directly with your JCP Work Coach and ask to be referred to this opportunity in the NCA.

Your Job Coach will tell you all about the NCA Kickstart jobs, will show you the job descriptions and will match you to the most suitable job opportunities. From there you will apply and be interviewed for the Kickstart job.

You don’t have to have loads of qualifications or experience in the NHS to apply. We are looking for people with enthusiasm, a good work ethic and a genuine interest in working in the NHS.
